I am the Director of Informatics at the Institute for Genomics and Systems Biology (IGSB) and a Senior Fellow at the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago.

My research group designs and develops Bionimbus, which is an open source cloud-based system for managing, analyzing and sharing genomic data. Bionimbus can be deployed as a private cloud. For example, Bionimbus is used to manage and analyze the data produced by IGSB’s High-Throughput Genome Analysis Core (HGAC). We are also setting up a community cloud for genomics researchers that we hope to launch in September, 2011. We have run a small proof of concept community cloud for modENCODE researchers during the past year.

My research group also develops algorithms, systems, and applications for working with large datasets.
