The 2014 Open Science Data Cloud (OSDC) NSF PIRE Workshop just ended. This was the fourth year that we have run this training program, and the field of data science has matured quite a bit during this time.
The goal of the workshop is to provide a hands-on introduction to data science using the Open Science Data Cloud for this year's 16 NSF OSDC PIRE Fellows.
The workshop took place at the University of Amsterdam and the faculty mentors who will host the OSDC PIRE Fellows for their summer research projects also attended. This year, just as last year, the workshop consisted of lectures on big data and data science that were integrated with a week-long data science hackathon. At the end of the week, the results of the hackathon were presented and prizes awarded.
